MOSAIC WORK

Color+wheel+study.jpg

As a professional stone and glass cutter, I find immense satisfaction within the natural color palettes achievable with simple rocks. Like our Roman ancestors of old, I use my tools to cut and shape materials into tesserae (small cubic shapes) to create beautiful mosaic artwork. I feel a deep connection with those ancient Roman artists every time I pick up my hammer and begin working with tesserae. The placement of each and every stone piece and its relationship to the next tesserae ignites such joy within me. The adamento, or flow of tesserae lines, is my way of creating a visual story.

The very first time I cut glass at a introductory stained glass class I knew that this would be my passion, my career, my livelihood. And so it has been for the past 43 years. I delight in the combination of the natural stones and the bright, shiny, colorful glass. As I work, I muse about the raw (stone and sand) and the refined (glass) materials. I feel like the next link in the chain when I use these materials to bring art into our world.

Each mosaic is handcrafted in my studio in East Tennessee with care and intention. They are all unique and every one of them holds that same inspiration and wonder that keeps my passion alive. My mosaics add creativity and pop of color to any space within your home or make excellent gifts.

From the abstract to the edgy to the traditional pieces I make, every one holds a little part of my history, my travels and my heart. With every mosaic creation, I want you to feel the joy and passion I’ve put in it — and then carry that wonderment into your own life. From my heart to my hands to your home,
